| Practice Experience:
A native of Peoria, Illinois, Tobin began his career with Heyl Royster by clerking with the firm while he was still in law school. Following graduation from law school in 1996, he joined the firm in the Peoria office and became a partner in 2006. Practice Emphasis: Tobin concentrates his practice in the defense of asbestos and toxic tort claims arising from environmental and occupational exposures, including product liability and premises liability claims. He currently represents clients and participates in the defense of asbestos, silica, manganese/welding rods, and vinyl chloride lawsuits within the state and federal courts. He has actively defended more than a dozen clients in asbestos litigation throughout federal and state courts of Illinois. Defendants represented have included insulation manufacturers, brake and friction material manufacturers, gasket manufacturers, distributors, public utilities, premises owners, and contractors. As trial counsel, Tobin has responsibility for all aspects of asbestos lawsuits. He has drafted, pursued, defended, and argued countless discovery motions as well as numerous motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment. He has deposed “state of the art” plaintiffs’ experts, treating physicians, industrial hygienists, pathologists, radiologists, epidemiologists, and witnesses. Tobin has prepared and defended defense expert witnesses during deposition and prepared them for trial appearances. He is familiar with the relevant scientific and medical literature related to asbestos disease as well as the historical significance of various studies, papers, and governmental regulations and regularly deposes plaintiffs’ experts on such matters. He has co-authored an article, “The Attorney - Client Relationship,” for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s 2002 Civil Practice Handbook. Tobin is a member of the Peoria County , Illinois State and American Bar Associations. He is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC). Additionally, he is a member of the Abraham Lincoln Inns of Court.
